Carbon Conscious Public Outreach and Social Marketing Programs Essential Piece of Climate Change Puzzle
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Changing the public's behavior through effective social marketing
programs is pivotal to realizing results with regard to conservation
issues like water, energy and greenhouse gas reductions.
PMC, a multidisciplinary consulting firm that provides public outreach
and social marketing services, climate action planning and grant
writing, will be offering a complimentary funding audit to assist
municipalities in accessing American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
(ARRA) funds.
"Changing government operations is not enough," said PMC President Phil
Carter. "A comprehensive plan for assessing and tracking water use and
transportation, coupled with an engaging public outreach program, can
facilitate substantial reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and in
meeting state requirements."
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is providing funding through the
Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program.
Municipalities can receive funding for a multitude of projects that
include public outreach programs relating to sustainability and
conservation. Applications for funding are due to the DOE by June 25,
2009.
"Public outreach and social marketing programs can successfully provide
long-term solutions to sustainability issues. The public must be
increasingly involved as we look at our water resources and challenge
ourselves to better use and protect our available supplies," said
Carter. "There's also a critical need among the business and political
leaders to coordinate water resource planning and management among the
many agencies providing water to our region to ensure that we enjoy a
continued, adequate quality water supply."
The Carbon Conscious program was initiated in response to recent
legislation passed in the state of California, including Assembly Bill
(AB) 32 and Senate Bill (SB) 375, which mandates compliance to targeted
greenhouse gas reduction goals over a period of time. Importantly, the
program addresses local greenhouse gas emissions through a combination
of mindful resource and transportation planning, community engagement
and sustainable practices.
