Solutions to Global, Local Water Issues to Be Offered by Southland College Students

U.S. Rep. Grace F. Napolitano (D-Montebello) to join more than 100
students and professors from universities and community colleges
throughout region at expo concluding Southern California World Water
Forum, a pioneering grant program addressing global water issues.

begins at 10:00 a.m; group project presentations start at 1 p.m.

PARTICIPANTS:
Students from participating colleges; Congresswoman Napolitano, honorary
chair of the Southern California World Water Forum; Timothy F. Brick,
chairman, Metropolitan Water District Board of Directors;; William
Steele, area manager, Bureau of Reclamation; Steve Maguin, general
manager, Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County; and representatives
from Friends of the United Nations, Water For People and the American
Society of Civil Engineers.
BACKGROUND:
The event concludes competition that mobilized hundreds of college
students throughout Southern California. The program awarded $10,000
grants to 17 college teams to research, develop and communicate
water-use efficiency technology and conservation practices that can be
cost-effectively implemented locally or globally in water-stressed
regions. (See Attached)
Sponsoring Forum agencies include the Metropolitan Water District of
Southern California, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, the Sanitation
Districts of Los Angeles County, the American Society of Civil
Engineers, Friends of the United Nations, Water for People and the
Family of Southern California Water Agencies.
