Response to "Prostitution - Selling Sex, what's new?"
I read Mr. Brockwell's article about sex and found it very refreshing. A rational look at what is an illogical American approach to the topic of sex for sale/trade. Although he captures the essence of the issue quite well, I doubt if the self-righteous moralists will ever acknowledge others might see the world differently than they do.
Anyone who objects to "sex for money" should logically object just a vehemently to "sex for dinner", "sex for jewelry", "sex for a promotion", or "sex for sharing your home, food, etc." (The last one sounding like many marriages). But very, very few do object anywhere near as forcefully. Many feminists who despise anyone they think gives $ to an escort see nothing wrong with a woman accepting a gift from a man. Many who want to tar and feather a man who hires a prostitute are actively jealous of a guy who can trade dinner and a ride in his Corvette for a night of sex. Such hypocritical stands.
I can at least respect as consistent all those who decry prostitution, adultery, and sex out of marriage equally, but those are few and far between. Prostitution ruins marriages but if no money was exchanged it doesn't? Escorts spread diseases but if no money is exchanges the germs don't spread?
Decry the drugs, slavery, and coercion when they occur, not truly consensual sex exchanged for food, money, a diamond ring, or anything else legal.
Again, thank you for the article.
