State Dept. Lauds International Agencies on the H1N1 virus A and Pork Safety

The Department of State notes with appreciation the April 30 media release from three international organizations (the World Health Organization, World Animal Health Organization, and the Food and Agriculture Organization) regarding the safety of consuming pork products in the context of the outbreak of H1N1 virus A.

In discussions with senior officials from the three organizations, U.S. Assistant Secretary for International Organizations Esther Brimmer commended the organizations for their actions and offered continued support during this crisis.

The action of these organizations further demonstrates to the world the important role of multilateral organizations in confronting global health challenges. The United States stands ready to support the critical work of these organizations in addressing the H1N1 virus A outbreak.
