Hispanic Chamber, Texas Governor Celebrate Newly Appointed UT System Regent Gene Powell

The San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is celebrating former
Executive Committee Board member and South Texan Wm. Eugene "Gene"
Powell, who
was appointed to a six-year term on The University of
Texas System Board of Regents by the Honorable Rick Perry, Governor of
Texas. Governor Perry will be in attendance at a celebration as the
Hispanic Chamber honors Powell tonight in San Antonio.
"This is a community-wide celebration of the accomplishments of one of
San Antonio's most influential leaders. Gene has been at the forefront
of San Antonio's development for a number of years, and we know that he
will now help further represent San Antonio and the wonderful endeavors
that our city's institutions of higher education are partaking in," said
Ramiro A. Cavazos, President & CEO of the Hispanic Chamber.

to have a representative of enormous passion and energy for higher
education. His vision and hard work brings about a synergy that will

The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce currently provides local university
students with internship and networking opportunities and will work
closely with Powell as it continues to foster education and leadership
in the Hispanic community.
Regent Wm. Eugene "Gene" Powell
Raised in Weslaco, Texas, Regent Powell is a native of the Rio Grande
Valley. He holds a B.S. and M.B.A. in Finance from The University of
Texas at Austin. In 1983 he moved to San Antonio, Texas, to become the
President of The Quincy Lee Company.
In 1987 Powell formed The Powell Companies Real Estate Brokerage Company
and co-founded Bitterblue, Inc., which is one of San Antonio's leading
real estate developers. Powell is currently the CEO of the medical
software company AirStrip Technologies, which he co-founded in 2004.

Founded in 1929, it is the oldest and one of the largest and most
effective Hispanic Chambers in the country. The SAHCC is the principle
resource and advocate for Hispanic businesses and Hispanics in business.
