National Non-Profit Security On Campus, Inc. to Premiere New Sexual Assault Awareness Video Hosted by Actress Kristen Stewart

BRYN MAWR, Pa. , April 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is being released by Security On Campus:

What: National Premiere of "Speak Out and Stand Up: Raising Awareness about Sexual Assault" Educational Video Hosted by actress Kristen Stewart of "Twilight"

When: Thursday, April 30, 2009 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Where: Bryn Mawr Film Institute, 824 West Lancaster Avenue,Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania

Who: Connie Clery, Co-Founder, Security On Campus, Inc.

Why: Between one fifth and one quarter of college women will be the victim of a completed or attempted rape during their undergraduate careers according to the U.S. Department of Justice. As part of their efforts to increase awareness of the sexual violence crisis on campus Security On Campus, Inc. (SOC) will conclude this April's National Sexual Assault Awareness Month with the premiere of their new educational video. The new video will be used as part of their Safe On Campus Peer Education Program (SOC/PEP) and also made available to high schools and colleges. The SOC/PEP program reached close to 20,000 students transitioning to college this past school year.

"Speak Out and Stand Up: Raising Awareness about Sexual Assault" is hosted by Kristen Stewart, the star of the hit movie "Twilight," and features a dramatized but realistic incident of campus acquaintance sexual assault. Between 80-90% of campus rapes involve assailants that the victim knows. The 20-minute video, along with a related 30-second Public Service Announcement also featuring Stewart, was produced in collaboration with Civilian Studios.

(SOC) was founded in 1987 by Jeanne Clery's parents, Connie and Howard, after she was raped and murdered in her on-campus residence hall at college, by a fellow student whom she did not know. SOC worked to secure passage of the Jeanne Clery Act, originally known as the Campus Security Act, in 1990. The landmark federal law requires colleges and universities acrossthe United States to disclose information about crime on and around their campus.
