New America One Ownership and Management to Make Network "Partner of Choice" for Digital TV Era
(BUSINESS WIRE)
America One Television, a national U.S. television network reaching an
audience of more than 33 million households in more than 125 markets
with top international sports and lifestyle content on a no fee/barter
basis, today announced a shareholder buyout from America One's previous
owner, USFR Media Group. The ownership team is led by a group of
international sports television veterans strategically placed in key
markets around the world. The group purchased America One with the
intention of capitalizing on the network's unique programming mix and
capabilities to be the network partner of choice in the digital
television era, and has hired Wayne Becker, an experienced sports and
television executive, as the network's new CEO.
"With the advent of digital television technology, America One is
well-positioned to be the premier network partner for television
operators of all kinds," said America One co-founder and COO Preston
Bornman, who is a member of the new ownership team. "Our group sees that
potential and is committed to leveraging our unique low-cost,
solutions-driven model to achieve this leadership position. Wayne's
experience will be instrumental to the success of this effort."
Becker has held a variety of high-level positions with global sports
television brands, most recently as Head of Programming and
International at the Golf Channel. His prior positions include Senior
Vice President of Programming and Event Management at ESPN Star Sports
in Singapore, Special Advisor to the Managing Director of ESPN
International, Vice President of Affiliate Relations for the StarzEncore
Group of Liberty Media, and Vice President of Sports Programming and
Acquisitions at USA Networks.
"America One has a stellar reputation in sports television, and I am
very excited to come on board during the industry's digital transition,"
Becker said. "From broadcast stations in need of shows attractive to new
advertisers, to multicast stations seeking complementary programming
that doesn't cannibalize existing business, to IPTV brands that want
differentiated content to compete effectively, America One has the
programming, expertise and technology to seamlessly deliver the
solutions these operators need."
Over the next few months, America One plans to implement a number of
internal and external enhancements to its current programming and
branding that will build on the network's strong market position and
solutions. The company expects to make additional announcements about
its progress throughout the spring and summer of this year.
America One's new ownership group includes broadcast, cable and sports
entertainment veterans with a combined 150 years of experience with
major global television brands including Fox Sports, STAR Sports, ESPN,
Abu Dhabi Television and Setanta Sports.
