Monster, National Football League Announce the First Director of Fandemonium
(BUSINESS WIRE)
Monster.com,
the leading global online career and recruitment resource and flagship
brand of Monster
Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: MWW), together with the National Football
League (NFL), today announced Rainier "Onyx" Herrera as the first "NFL
Director of Fandemonium." Monster launched the search for the
position at Super Bowl XLIII, and 32 finalists interviewed for the role
over two days last month at the NFL's New York headquarters.
As part of the season-long role, the new Director of Fandemonium will
take home a $100,000 signing bonus, as well as take part in the
behind-the-scenes action - with never-before-granted access - at several
marquee NFL events during the 2009 season. His responsibilities kick off
this weekend in New York City when he announces a second-round pick at
the 2009 NFL Draft.
Rainer Onyx Herrera, "Onyx" as his friends call him, may not be the most
obvious pick to represent the NFL and Monster as the Director
of Fandemonium: he lives in Hawaii - 6000 miles and six hours behind
every East Coast game. But as a lifelong, loyal and intensely passionate
football fan for more than 30 years, yet with no NFL team on his own
home "turf," Onyx has improvised and cheered tirelessly from a distance.
The miles and the hours have not dimmed his enthusiasm, his dedication
or his passion for the game he has loved his whole life.
"Admittedly, we are a bit football deprived here in Hawaii, but that has
never diminished my love for the sport of football," said Herrera. "I
seriously do have 'fandemonium fever' - that intense passion and drive
for the game. Put simply, being selected the Director of Fandemonium is
a dream job for me - one I've been 'training' for since I was a kid."
"Onyx is exactly what we were looking for in a Director
of Fandemonium," said Ted Gilvar, executive vice president and chief
global marketing officer, Monster. "He's a really outgoing, regular guy
who lives and breathes the NFL. We had 32 great candidates to choose
from but Onyx clearly earned the role over the grueling two-day
interview process."
Other behind-the-scenes access over his tenure as Director will include:
-
NFL Kickoff: Act as backstage talent wrangler at the 2009 NFL Kickoff
concert (Sept. 2009)
-
International Series: Participate in on-field introductions at a game
in London (Oct. 2009)
-
NFL Thanksgiving: Serve as an on-field broadcast liaison for NFL
Network's Thanksgiving Game (Nov. 2009)
-
Pro Bowl: Select a play from the sidelines during the 2010 Pro Bowl
(Jan. 2010)
-
Super Bowl: Join the coin toss ceremony at Super Bowl XLIV (Feb. 2010)
Profiles for all of the finalists as well as webisodes chronicling the
interview process can be found at nfl.monster.com.
