MADD Florida Adds Weight to Legislation

(BUSINESS WIRE) Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD Florida) announced today, their strong support for House Bill 295 and Senate Bill 554, clarifying jurisdiction issues regarding Campus/University Police Agencies. These officers often encounter DUI and other criminal situations near the boundaries of university campuses. "As it stands now, Campus police agencies are constantly challenged by defense lawyers over jurisdiction issues…even though they are operating under mutual aid agreements with neighboring departments" , said Don Murray, MADD's Executive Director in Florida. "This new law will provide a clean and clear resolution to this issue. It closes another loop hole and will likely keep some students alive and healthy!"

"We strongly encourage the passage of this legislation in support of our young people and the law enforcement officers working to keep them safe" , Murray concluded.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving is the Nation's preeminent public welfare agency related to DUI and related issues. Additional information may be found at www.madd.org and www.walklikemadd.org.
