Srinagar, April 8: Police claimed to have averted a major tragedy by recovering a 25 kilograms liquid IED near a Railway track in Kashmir.

A police spokesman said, "On specific information police recovered 25 kilograms liquid IED in a cylindrical shell near Railway track in village Khelan in south Kashmir. The shell was checked by the bomb disposal squad and during the checking the experts found explosives in the cylinder," he said.

The spokesman said that exports of the bomb disposal squad later destroyed the explosive device without causing any loss of life or damage to the property.

A senior police officer of the area said that the policemen averted a major tragedy by the timely recovery of the explosive device. "Had the explosive device not been defused, it could have caused civilian casualties," he said.

The official claimed that the militants had planned to target a train. He said that the patrolling on railway tracks has further been intensified to thwart any militant attempt to sabotage the rail link.
