NBC "Today" show talent including Matt Lauer, Meredith Vieira, Al Roker, Ann Curry, Natalie Morales, Kathie Lee Gifford, Hoda Kotb and Tiki Barber, among others joined Zoellner and Ybarbo to celebrate the book launch at theNew York City event. Each guest gathered on the red carpet last evening at Rouge Tomate restaurant to donate a pack of diapers to benefit struggling moms inNew York City through the help of Baby Buggy. For each pack of specially-marked Pampers diapers donated, Pampers donated nine additional diaper packs to Baby Buggy. Pampers' total donation to Baby Buggy equaled $25,000 in product.
Attendees who donated a package of specially-marked Pampers for the drive not only provided diapers to a family in need inNew York City through Baby Buggy, but also triggered a donation in support of the Pampers "One Pack = One Vaccine" campaign(1) to benefit UNICEF. This "double donation" resulted in funding to enable UNICEF to provide nearly 2,000 vaccines(2) to help protect women and their newborns in the developing world against Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus.
"We wrote 'TODAY'S MOM: Essentials for Surviving Babies First Year' to be of service to new moms, but it is also important to us - especially in these tough economic times - to be of service to moms in need," said Mary Ann Zoellner, author of 'TODAY'S MOMS' and producer of NBC's 'Today' show. That's why we are so grateful to Pampers for coordinating yesterday's diaper drive and getting their diapers to struggling parents here inNew York and around the country."
"As a mom, I know how difficult the first year with a new baby can be and that is why Mary Ann and I were so excited to develop this book as a way to share our own personal experiences and help moms and dads cope with being new parents," added Alicia Ybarbo, author of 'TODAY'S MOMS' and producer of NBC's "Today" show.
New York City residents can continue to donate additional diapers at Rouge Tomate (60th and Madison) or Baby Buggy (www.babybuggy.org) through April and all donations will go to Baby Buggy. Consumers outside ofNew York City, anyone looking to buy the book for themselves, or those looking for the perfect shower gift, can purchase a bundled set, which includes the "TODAY'S MOMS: Essentials for Surviving Baby's First Year" book and package of Pampers Swaddlers through Diapers.com. A portion of proceeds from the bundled set will be donated to Baby Buggy to help families in need.
"Both the 'TODAY'S MOMS' book and the book launch, which doubled as a diaper drive to help parents in need are perfect fits to what we're all about, which is being of service to parents and babies," said Jodi Allen, North American vice president and general manager for Pampers. "We wanted to help families in need even further and the book event presented a perfect opportunity to launch a diaper drive that helped struggling parents in this country and around the world. We are also grateful to Diapers.com for creating the special bundled gift package so everyone can enjoy the book while donating to a worthy cause at the same time."
