Simple Tips for Weight Loss
By Steve Fisher, ND
As we approach another summer many of us are beginning to think about ways to look our best while wearing less clothing and possibly a bathing suit. Losing weight is simply a matter of taking in fewer calories than you burn up or burning up more calories than you take in. So you have input and output to work with. Here are my suggestions:
Drink 64 - 80 oz of pure water per day
If you have a strong appetite drink a full glass of water thirty minutes before meals
Limit portions by eating more often but less per session
Eat lots of fruits and vegetables
Limit saturated fats (animal fats) and include monosaturated fats (olive oil, canola, avocado, etc.)
Eat some low fat dairy everyday
Limit junk food consumption to no more than one time per week
Get a minimum of 20 - 30 minutes of exercise per day (and work up to 60 minutes on four of those days)
Burn more calories at every opportunity (i.e. park further from stores than normal, take stairs when possible, walk or ride a bike to places when safe, exercise while watching TV instead of sitting on coach)
Work out in the yard whenever possible
Play with children or grandchildren
Always remember when you hear about weight loss supplements that sound like they are too good to be true they usually are! You can look and feel great by adhering to a basic healthy lifestyle.
