What Happened to The American Dream for The American Citizens?
Enforce The 1986 Immigration Laws in The Simpson/Mazzoli Control Act
I agree with your article.
I have sent letters to my representatives and the president... To no avail. As a Los Angeles resident of over 30 years I know the changes to our city in these last 15 years has escalated in major ways. Firstly, the signs for businesses are mostly in languages other than English. That's right, when I drive down our street, I can't understand more than half the signs for local businesses. Spanish and Armenian are the local languages, with Farsi and Arabic following after that. Just North of my home it goes to Pilipino.
The only areas in Los Angeles that has all or mostly English are the wealthiest areas where the rich elite live like Malibu, Bel Air, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica. Everywhere else is very third world urban sprawl.
When businesses have only a foreign language sign in front, it's discouraging for an English speaking customer to even enter. Isn't that discrimination? The message is we only want our OWN people as customers.
I have felt pushed out of my neighborhood by these folks who act like they own everything. A big change from the area I bought into 20 years ago.
But one thing you got wrong in your article is the illegal immigrants do NOT work cheap. I asked one over at the HOME DEPOT what they wanted to help me in my garden..... The rate was $120.00 for 8 hours per person for unskilled labor. Specialists like construction workers are more. That's $15.00 per hour for the CHEAP labor. My daughter who's going to college can only make $8.00 per hour and she is very well educated and capable.
The schools are overwhelmed with the children of illegal immigrants. Emergency rooms are closing down to avoid having to treat them for free. The expense is breaking this state in hundreds of ways. Of course our Mexican immigrant Mayor seems okay with all this.... The American dream for all.
What happened to the American dream for the American citizens? I think it's gone. It may never come back to this city, unless you're rich.
Sadly, we're a minority here now. A white, middle class family with 2 kids and a home in the valley.
