Blind Man Christopher Bohannon Shares Insight on Eyesight with Authored Book of Poems
Sight to be purchased with proceeds

Losing eyesight for the vast majority of people is feared more than contracting AIDS and cancer, according to the National Federation for the Blind, but for Christopher Bohannon, any of these medical issues crossing his path was as far from his youthful imagination as a trip to a distant star. His destiny became linked to one of these - blindness - when a distinctly rare nerve dystrophy shared by just one other soul in the world began shutting down his vision and his dreams, until an unforeseen godsend led him to publish a book of poems entitled, "Love Is My Star."
The original works found between the covers are destined to alter readers' outlook, when they discover that the book they hold in their hand is the key to funding the purchase of eyewear that literally gives the blind man sight.
At 33 and now 90 percent blind, several accidental encounters moved Bohannon closer to regaining his eyesight. His first was with an inventive pair of goggles, apparently inspired by a futuristic television character, at a routine doctor visit. Placing the eyewear on transported Bohannon back to when he could see, literally giving the blind man sight; with a hefty $3,000 price tag, he dismissed the notion that he could seize the device to see the world for himself again.
His second fortuitous encounter catapulted Bohannon from amateur poet to published author. Six months after the eyewear discovery, the idea of re-gaining control of his life - and his sight - propelled him to the Internet on a quest for details about the device.
Along the way, he stumbled upon an idea for funding the purchase of the life-altering visionwear at a self-publishing Web site. For Bohannon, adversity presented opportunity; the man who lost his vision - and became one of the over one million U.S. residents who are blind - found his way to put his innate talent to work for his benefit; he charted a path to publishing a collection of poems.
The selections presented by Bohannon in, "Love Is My Star," are the culmination of the author's aspirations from a young age to become a poet, and they have become the ticket he holds for his future ability to see and write.
With poems which center around the feelings love evokes, Bohannon affirms that, "Regardless of what is lost - sight or other - one should never lose sincerity, humor and a vision of hope."
Bohannon, who has served and ministered to the congregation and community of his church for 13 years, added, "Everyone has a talent, and I have no less than others. I've hitched my dreams to, 'Love Is My Star'."
