Digital Pioneer, Facebook Co-Founder Chris Hughes Joins PR Firm
Obama campaign veterans unite to provide strategic counsel
for global clientele
(WASHINGTON)-Chris Hughes, who co-founded Facebook and led Obama for America's unprecedented online organizing effort, is joining progressive communications firm GMMB as a strategic advisor. Hughes will serve as an of-counsel resource, providing GMMB clients with insight and digital strategies for a wide range of campaigns and causes.
GMMB was a lead agency for Obama for America, playing a central role in strategy, message, advertising and media placement for the historic presidential campaign.
"We're thrilled to have Chris become a part of our firm," said GMMB Partner Greg Pinelo. "All of us who were involved in the Obama campaign were simply amazed by what he accomplished. Chris is a true visionary who shares our firm's commitment to social change through groundbreaking communications and organizing. He will be an incredible resource for GMMB's clients and their causes."
"I'm honored to have the opportunity to join the great team at GMMB in working for progressive causes and organizations," Hughes said. "This firm recognizes that online organizing and new media are central to how people communicate today. As it leverages digital tools alongside proven communications strategies and the kind of outstanding creative thinking GMMB did for the Obama campaign, the firm is uniquely positioned to help clients make a difference in people's lives."
Hughes, along with Harvard roommates Mark Zuckerberg and Dustin Moskovitz, created Facebook in 2004. Today, it's a global social and cultural phenomenon, with 175 million users worldwide. As Director of Online Organizing for the Obama campaign, Hughes led a team that engaged millions of Americans through My.BarackObama.com, attracted five million "friends" on 15 social networking sites and inspired three million donors to contribute to the campaign.
With offices in Washington, D.C., Seattle, Los Angeles and London, GMMB has an unparalleled reputation for driving social change through innovative campaigns. The agency's diverse clientele has included the Save Darfur Coalition, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the United Nations Foundation, UNICEF, the Blue Cross-Blue Shield Association, the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids and Visa International. GMMB has also provided media and strategic consulting services for many Democratic Senators, Members of the House of Representatives and governors.
"Combining one of the world's leading technologists in Chris Hughes with GMMB's experience and integrated approach to digital strategy, advertising, media relations, organizing and political consulting has the potential to bring real change to people's lives," GMMB Executive Creative Director Kirk Souder said. "That's our mission, and we're very proud to have Chris Hughes join with us."
