Economic Downturn Means More Addiction in OC, According to Nonprofit Treatment Center

  Share With Friends

Addiction rates have been rising as the economy falls as observed by New Directions for Women, a nonprofit women's treatment center in Costa Mesa.

Families are unable to spend or secure credit to treat their addicted loved ones even as addiction rates rise.

New Directions has responded to the economic slump by introducing two new programs: Intensive Sober Living and Evening Intensive Outpatient (IOP).

Federally recognized, these programs can alleviate hurdles associated with obtaining treatment by offering an affordable program to treat addiction at roughly 20% the cost of traditional inpatient treatment.

IOP is usually covered by insurance, and delivers many of the same industry-leading treatment services as inpatient treatment while allowing participants to maintain employment.

"Patients and families want to maximize the use of their insurance benefit before turning to their personal resources during these difficult economic times," says expert on addiction Becky Flood, Executive Director and CEO of New Directions for Women.
