Mayor Newsom, Members of Congress Back Immigration Rights Group Focused on Family;news Conference Wednesday
SAN FRANCISCO - A bold, new immigration rights group - backed by San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom and members of Congress - is focusing on the toll that a failed immigration system is taking on children and families here.
A NEWS CONFERENCE to unveil the project will be held WEDNESDAY, March 4, on the steps of CITY HALL at 12 Noon.
Appearances or statements from supporters will be read - including Mayor Newsom and Rep. Luis V. Gutierrez, among others.
To be known as the "Family Unity Committee of San Francisco," the organization's goal is achieving comprehensive immigration reform by putting a "human face on the issue and addressing the harm that our broken immigration system is causing millions of U.S. citizens."
Only then, said the committee, "can we begin to put a stop to the raids and deportations...policies that rip our families apart."
