Is Two Percent Bi-Partisan?
Dear Newsblaze Editor,
With the most massive spending bill in history now about to take effect, we can only hope it works better than the process that created it. The $787 Billion Stimulus Package was predicted by it's protagonists to be a bi-partisan creation of teamwork.
In the end only three Senators crossed the aisle. It passed on virtually straight party lines, 246 to 183 in the House, with seven crossovers and the bare majority 60 to 40 in the Senate where five hours of haggling finally saw a third crossover vote.
Granted something drastic is needed, but we have possibly mortgaged the entire future of our children and their children. In this package, government spending ended up overshadowing any tax cuts by more than two to one and it has a lot of conservative Democratic legislators worried. With the appointed Commerce Secretary resigning in frustration, we can only hope this bill doesn't become "Titanic II."
