WII Fit Gaming System Presents Physical and Emotional Problems
Lawsuit Against Nintendo for The Ill Effects of Their Wii Games
I first wanted to thank you for allowing us your readers to make comments on material distributed by your news media, many avenues of reporting the news only report it and do not allow the public who reads, hears or watches the news an opportunity to respond to what is being reported.
I have responded on one of Mr. Torchia's articles as a retired Deputy Sheriff from Los Angeles but today I am writing to you as an Ordained Minister, father of three children and friend in response to Mr. Torchias article on WII Fit gaming system. I appreciate the fact that Mr. Torchia is reporting of the physical and emotional problems that the WII Fit gaming system presents. As a Minister I had counseled couples who have issues, one being their husbands belonging to gaming clubs.
The issues range from the males spending several hours on line with friends competing to win. This taking time from the family (wife and Kids or other family), late night gaming sometimes all night. Many who have the WII fit system truly believe they are working out by staying in the home and performing the games functions. Many have children who want to go outside and play catch or shoot hoops, play tennis or even throw a football. Many of these children are being convinced this is like the real thing and are missing the outside experience in healthy activity. I have noticed that also many men are living the old glory athletic days through this gaming system as well as other systems.
As a father I bought the WII fit system for my youngest son, since Christmas I have noticed he and his friends want to spend less time outside playing football, tennis, baseball and even less time on the trampoline and wanting to sit in his room and play the WII fit. I have noticed they now get angry if they don't achieve the games goals. Out side playing the actual sport I never noticed anger for not doing well. The competitive spirit is harsher with the gaming system unlike the actual playing of the sports outside.
Do to these factors, my youngest and his friends are limited to one half an hour to play the WII fit games. the rest of the playing time is outside with me or my wife playing actual sports with them (our son and his friends, I have been approached by many parents from my sons school and from the church and I have listened to many other parents at different locations discussing the same issues with the WII fit system. Many have spoken their children have gotten lazy and are not doing as well in school and some gaining weight and even not sleeping because they are caught up in gaming and many the competitive edge of the WII fit is stressful to the children.
As A friend I have spoken to many parents about what would be a good resolution to the same problems we are all reading about and experiencing with are children including my own with the WII fit games. I do not consider myself an expert on fitness exercise or nutrition. I do know from past help where to go and who to trust and consider to give honest advice to me and many other parents who ask where to go for advice. I have asked and referred many to Mr. Torchia. I have found that what he has done for the Police Officers and Executive Protection agents in the past with amazing results was a good place to go for advice and expert opinion on the injuries from the WII fit games and why kids are getting angry when they do not achieve the games goals and the weight game children are experiencing by not going outside to play and playing a games inside that mimics actual playing of the real games.
Mr. Torchia is aggressive and honest in his opinions, I feel that he has given many I have refer ed to him sound advice with good to outstanding results, even in my own home situation on health and the WII Fit games we have taken Mr. Torchias advice and things have returned to normal outdoor activity
Many companies will advertise by what ever means possible to sell their product. Honestly not caring for the consumer or the health of the consumer because money is their object of business. Sometimes what is called entertainment confuses many on is this entertainment good, is it healthy ( for me I even ask is it good or healthy for my soul or my families soul such as some movies or violent games).
I am once again grateful for Mr. Torchias look into this issue that many Americans are facing by using and allowing their children to use this system. I feel if you listen to Mr. Torchia and do the research he is asking to be done you will See he has facts that are the bases for his concern.
