Residents Protest Wal-Mart Selling Ammo, Booze and Tobacco Near
QUARTZ HILL - Citizens here said they will hold an early morning protest FRIDAY to oppose the construction of a Wal-Mart across the street from Quartz Hill High School because Wal-mart sells ammunition, alcohol and tobacco.
The protest will be held FRIDAY, Jan. 30, from 5:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. at the intersection of Avenue L and 60th St. West, near the school.
"We want to inform teachers and parents at Quartz Hill High School about the plans for developing the area around the school and to show our strong opposition to that development," said Loretta Berry of Quartz Hill Cares.
A final decision on the construction of the Wal-Mart will be made in the near future.
"Parents and teachers should be very concerned about a store that can sell ammunition, tobacco and alcohol located directly right across the street from children," charged Berry.
The land, originally not zoned commercial but annexed by Lancaster so all the tax revenue would go to the City of Lancaster and leave the Quartz Hill community with crime, invasive lighting, noise, vagrancy, truancy, blight and traffic congestion, explained Berry.
