"Today is the first day of the rest of your life America". This seems to be the new mantra of the United States.

Every 50-100 years our country goes through this "Change" of government. Or at least we hope it will, because in between the time we are not changing our government we are "HOPING" for change in our government.

Before I go on talking about the inauguration and the rest of our lives, I want to tell the folks who read my comments regularly why I have not been so regular lately. In short, I have been training. For what you say? Well, last year I was asked to submit a video demo to a LARGE theatrical production and the long of the short of it, I was hired and will be given a contract as one of the two cowboy trick roping, gun spinning, clowning cowboys for one of the largest productions to hit Las Vegas in many years. The performing group: Cirque Du Soleil and the show: "Elvis". Now this does not mean you folks will be losing me or my comments, it just means that I will be typing less and stretching more.

Ok, back to day one of a new life here in the USA. As I reflect on the inauguration, I can't help becoming tearful and proud as I see the images of my fellow Americans in, around and part of the Tableau of this new family portrait we call America. Seeing that we are all mostly visual beings and that is what we are served up here by our media daily the images of our fellow Americans reacting to this moment in time will hold strong in our hearts and minds.

As 911 represents the lowest we could all be as individuals and as a country, January 20, 2009 will be marked in history as the day the frown on our faces started tipping up to smile onto our nation. Although we have not used these face muscles much lately we hope that it will become common place and part of our mental makeup.

The first day in office, President Obama spent actually working, which in recent years I understand is not common place for the President to work on this day, go figure. But this President might just subscribe to that old adage of "You should under promise and over deliver." But with the way the country is right now we don't care about the promises, we just want to see the deliver part.

He had his first press meeting and made some statements that frankly shocked a lot of us. Mainly cause he started off saying "remember the crooked ways I told you about here in Washington, well let's start by putting them out of a job." He meant the lobbyist, the only thing they get to do now is sell used cars and good luck with that one. Obama is about to put us on an allowance and so he ain't allowing the lobbyist any part of that money. It will only be for what we need, not what we greed.

President Obama, although 72% of us approve of you and your plan . . . so far. You won't get a full smile from us until we have stopped holding our breath, which might be sometime after the first 100 days. Most of us have been breathless for the last eight years and now that we are waiting to exhale we might be a little blue in the face for a while. Which is much better than the previous face of America which is RED.

Watching the first press conference from President Obama it seems to me that both Vice President Biden and President Obama lack one major element that the last administration had . . . EGO! The whole feeling seems to be one of team work. After all there is no "i" in team, at least for now.

For now Mr. President we are in your corner. We voted for a president and if you can pull this off you might just be able to add Magician to your resume.
