Hot Desert Sounds: NYC Singer Zander Bleck Hits the African "Festival Au Desert"

  Share With Friends

Few musicians as talented, as committed and as smoking hot would have the coolness and the courage to cross endless miles of the Sahara desert (on camelback no less) -- just to play their music -- and in this country, Zander Bleck is that exception. One of the only American musicians invited to participate in the African "Festival Au Desert" concert this year in Essakane, two hours from Timbuktu in Mali, Zander Bleck is paving the way for an emblematic and exotic music career.

A native of New Jersey, currently living in NYC, blessed with Adonis good looks, classic charisma and the musical talent to match, the twenty-four year old Zander Bleck is seriously taking America -- and now the world -- by storm. The Festival Au Desert is an ideal venue for the idealistic Bleck, as Led Zeppelin front-man Robert Plant enthusiastically explains of his own experience participating in this African music festival, "It's one of the few honest things I have been a part of in a long, long time. It's amazing to play out in the sand. There are no doors, no gates and no money. It reminded me of why I sang in the first place." Bleck vehemently agrees!

The history of the festival is deeply rooted in traditional Touareg festivities, which represented for a long time a place for decision-making and exchange of information among the different communities. Initially, there were songs, poetry, traditional Touareg dances, as well as camel rides and games.

Today, the Festival is international in scope, with music as its main focus. Zander will be, in many ways, representing the United States, and with a new music video being filmed in Africa for "Beyond The Horizon," a video documentary to come of Zander's entire African experience, and the tremendous success of Zander's first release, "Get Up" (the "Get Up" music video can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DhcX_fCQz0&fmt=22), Zander Bleck is on his way to world-wide recognition!
