USAID Hosts First Development 2.0 Challenge Awards Ceremony
Washington, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will host the USAID Development 2.0 Challenge Awards Ceremony at the Newseum's Knight Conference Center, inWashington D.C. on January 8th at 3 p.m. USAID Administrator and U.S. Director of Foreign Assistance Henrietta H. Fore will deliver congratulations and announce who receives the top grant of $10,000. Founding members of each team will present their projects.
This awards ceremony will honor three innovative entrepreneurs whose ideas for mobile technology applications for developing countries have been selected as the top entries in USAID's first-ever open source challenge. These projects are ClickDiagnostics, RapidSMS Child Malnutrition Surveillance, and Ushahidi v. 2. The Development 2.0 Challenge is the brainchild of USAID's Global Development Commons, and aims to cultivate innovation to achieve international development goals through the application of mobile devices -- the most practical technology for connecting and exchanging information among people in developing countries. The Global Development Commons encourages innovations that enable people to share knowledge and forge partnerships that create development opportunities.
