CEO of Grupo Televisa, Emilio Azcarraga, to Address TOWN HALL Los Angeles

Emilio Azcarraga, Chief Executive Officer, Grupo Televisa, will speak on "Continuing the Latin Media Legacy" with TOWN HALL Los Angeles at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel on Tuesday, January 13, 2009. Attendees will learn about new trends in Spanish-language media from this industry leader.

Viewed as one of the world's most powerful media moguls, Azcarraga became CEO of Grupo Televisa in 1997 at the age of 29 and turned the company-in-debt around. Azcarraga stated, "I believe first that media doesn't shape the world, the people shape the world... We try to deliver information to the people so that they can make their own choices, in terms of culture or in terms of causes."

Founded in 1955, Grupo Televisa is Mexico's No. 1 television broadcaster with four networks and 260 affiliate stations, in addition to the company's holdings in publishing, pay-television and Internet television, with new sports and entertainment portals. Recent agreements struck in 2008 with US Spanish-language network Telemundo will increase Televisa's links with the US Latino market delivering Telemundo's programming, including its popular telenovelas, to all its digital platforms.

Throughout its 72 years TOWN HALL has hosted numerous leaders of the media industry including Ted Turner, Sumner Redstone, and Richard Parsons. Los Angeles' creative industries, including media, account for approximately 452,000 jobs in LA County and state revenues of $4 billion annually according to a 2007 study conducted by the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation.

One of the Top 10 Leadership Forums in the nation, TOWN HALL Los Angeles has been a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization since 1937, supported by Angelenos, foundations and corporations that believe in open public discussion. Our mission is to provide a forum for ideas -- a place for conversation and community -- a meeting of the minds. We advocate for no side, represent no particular ideology and stand solidly in support of free speech, civility and a belief that knowledge is a priceless commodity.
