Babbitt, Schuller and Song Join Max Reger Board of Directors

New York, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Max Reger Foundation of America (MRFOA) is pleased to announce the addition of three outstanding board appointments - two of the most influential composers in the world, Milton Babitt (honorary) and Gunther Schuller (honorary), and Inky Song, President of Song & Co, inNew York City. Gunther Schuller, whose father studied with Max Reger in Lepzig,Germany, stated, "I admire Max Reger very much as the one of the most remarkable composers of the early 20th century. It is sad that he is seriously under-appreciated in certain circles."

Milton Babbitt is renowned for his great talent, instinct for Jazz and his astonishing command of American popular music. Babbitt was born inPhiladelphia and studied composition privately with Roger Sessions. He earned degrees fromNew York and Princeton Universities and was awarded honorary degrees from Middlebury College, Swarthmore College, New York University, New England Conservatory, University of Glasgow, and Northwestern University. He also taught atPrinceton and The Juilliard School.

He is a founder and member of the Committee of Direction for the Electronic Music Center of Columbia-Princeton Universities and a member of the Editorial Board of Perspectives of New Music. The recipient of numerous honors, commissions, and awards, including a MacArthur Fellowship and a Pulitzer Prize Citation for his "life's work as a distinguished and seminal American composer," Babbitt is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Gunther Schuller is a world-renowned composer, conductor, performer, educator, record producer, music publisher and Jazz historian. Mr. Schuller has also conducted most of world's major orchestras over the past 50 years and is regarded as one of the key figures in contemporary classical music. Performing professionally since the age of 16, he played with the NY Philharmonic and was Principal Horn in the Cincinnati Symphony, and Principal Horn of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. He was also active in the New York Bebop scene and recorded with Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, the Modern Jazz Quartet, and Ornette Coleman, among others. At the age of 25, he started his teaching career at the Manhattan School of Music, and went on to be Professor of Composition at Yale University School of Music, President of the New England Conservatory, and Artistic Director of the Tanglewood Berkshire Music Center. Gunther Schuller has written more than 190 original compositions in virtually every musical genre; he has authored five books and started his own recording company, GM Recordings, in 1980. He has won many awards, including a Pulitzer Prize, two Grammy Awards, the MacArthur "Genius" Award, the American Academy of Arts and Letters Gold Medal for Music, BMI Lifetime Achievement Award, and Columbia University's William Schuman Award.

Inky Song is President of Song & Co., a company providing fundraising and communication strategies for non-profit organizations. Ms. Song has 21 years experience in the non-profit sector as a teacher and fundraiser. Ms. Song received a bachelor 's degree from NYU and a graduate degree from Polytechnic University.
