NutriSystem Helps Consumers Who Resolve to Lose Weight, Save Money and Eat Healthy in the New Year

Forbes.com finds NutriSystem Inc. to be the
lowest priced weight loss program as reported in their 12-23-08, "How
Expensive Is Your Diet?" story. The article compared the first week costs
of seven popular weight loss programs and stated that, "At $74 for women
and $82 for men, NutriSystem was the cheapest option..." Several of the
other programs were hundreds of dollars more expensive. For example,
Weight Watchers was calculated at $385 for the first week.
In March 2008, the National Business Research Institute (NBRI) conducted an
independent cost comparison of the first month on seven weight loss
programs. NBRI also found NutriSystem to be the lowest priced weight loss
program, hundreds of dollars less than other weight loss programs. This
study compared center-based programs, pre-packaged meal programs and
self-managed programs.*
Compared to USDA food plans, customers can actually lose weight with
NutriSystem for $55 less per month, or $660 a year, than many American's
food costs.** In addition, NutriSystem has no membership fees and provides
free online and telephone counseling.
"During these difficult economic times, NutriSystem offers the best value
available today for consumers who are looking to successfully lose weight,
feel more healthy and enjoy delicious, hunger-satisfying, convenient
ready-to-go foods," said Monica Woo, NutriSystem executive vice president
of ecommerce and chief marketing officer. "In addition to the best value
for the money, we will offer our customers a number of new programs for a
variety of lifestyles with 170 delicious food choices including 80 new
foods!"
According to www.usa.gov, the top three New Year's resolutions for 2009 are

controlled costs and is passing these savings to its consumers to help them
make these resolutions a reality.

*NBRI Research Methodology
Seven (7) diet programs were researched independently using the same manner
as a consumer would research the programs in making the decision to
participate in one of the included programs. This research included
visiting the websites for each of the programs, contacting each program by
telephone for clarification and/or additional information, visiting
centers, where applicable, and visiting various supermarkets to cost
ingredients for recommended meal plans.
The process was to calculate actual costs for participating in a program
for one (1) month. Specifically, calculations were based on program costs
for 28 days. Grocery costs were calculated by adjusting the local prices
(Dallas, TX) for the Cost of Living Index. Grocery prices in the Dallas
area are .936 of the National Average, according to the ACCRA Cost of
Living Index (http://www.coli.org). Weekly costs were based on 4.33 weeks
per month. Recommended meal plans were included for those programs that
require participants to use self-prepared meals.
The independent cost analysis study was commissioned by NutriSystem.
**This is based on Official USDA Food Plans: Cost of Food At Home at Four
Levels, Liberal Food Plan, US average, Sept. 2008 (adjusted 4.5% for
inflation to reflect 2008 expenditures). Cost of fresh grocery items not
included.
