Navy League Hosts Wounded Warriors at Army-Navy Game
PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Members of the Armed Services wounded
inIraq andAfghanistan will be attending the Army/Navy Game on December 6 at
Lincoln Financial Field as part of sponsorship activities of the Philadelphia
Council of the Navy League.
Soldiers, sailors, Marines and their caregivers from Bethesda Naval,
Walter Reed and Fort Meade military hospitals will be arriving between 10 and
10:30 a.m. on Darien Street near the East Club and Suite Entrance for a
"Welcome Wounded Warriors Day of Appreciation" on a bus provided by the
Philadelphia Council. The bus will be escorted to the Field from theDelaware
state line by motorcyclists from the "Gathering of Eagles" organization.
There will be an opportunity to capture their arrival at the game, but the
wounded warriors will be unable to talk with the media so they can be escorted
to their seats at the game. However, there will be a post-game reception about
4:30 p.m. at the Stadium Holiday Inn before the patients return to their
hospitals where individuals are expected to be able to talk to the media.
The Welcome Wounded Warriors project is one of three activities of
Operation Liberty sponsored by the League. The other two activities are:
-- Shut Out Bowl -- The USNL also will provide tickets for the crew of the
Navy ships that will be inPhiladelphia that weekend, for Marines, sailors and
soldiers stationed in the area, and for wounded and recovering veterans who
live in thePhiladelphia area. For sailors on the visiting ships who are
unable to attend the game, we will again host our "Shut Out Bowl." Big screen
TVs and good food will provide the "shut outs" with an opportunity to view the
game in a funPhiladelphia setting. This year's event will be held at The Fox
and Hound at 15th and Spruce in center cityPhiladelphia.
-- Navy Futures Program -- Representatives of the US Naval Academy and the
Navy Recruiting District will hold a Naval Academy -- NROTC information event
for targeted local high school students and their parents. The event will
take place at the Independence Seaport Museum before the game.
Any of these activities might provide opportunities for interviews with
active duty service men and women. For more information, please contact Terry
Williamson at 610-637-0980.
