CSC Assumes Leadership Role in Climate Savers Computing Initiative
FALLS CHURCH, Va., Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- CSC (NYSE: CSC) today announced
its board-level membership of the Climate Savers Computing Initiative, a
non-profit organization formed to reduce the energy consumption of computers.
The company also announced the appointment of John Glowacki, CSC's chief
technology officer, to the Initiative's board of directors.
The Climate Savers Computing Initiative's goal is to promote the
development, deployment and adoption of smart technologies that can both
improve the efficiency of a computer's power delivery and reduce the energy
consumed when the computer is in an inactive state. By 2010, the group seeks
to reduce global CO2 emissions from the operation of computers by 54 million
tons per year, a 50 percent reduction in power consumption by computers.
As participants in the Initiative, computer and component manufacturers
commit to producing products that meet specified power-efficiency targets, and
corporate participants commit to purchasing power-efficient computing products
and adopting policies and practices to increase power efficiency throughout
their organizations.
"As a leading global consulting, systems integration and outsourcing
company, CSC will bring valuable experience and perspective to the board,"
said Pat Tiernan, executive director of the Climate Savers Computing
Initiative. "Through CSC's deep relationships and understanding of its
customers, we hope to strengthen our reach and influence among users of
information technology and, ultimately, reduce their power consumption and CO2
emissions."
"With 91,000 employees of our own and significant purchasing power, we
have the opportunity to play a major role in the advancement of this important
goal," said David McCue, CSC's chief information officer. "Taking a leadership
position in Climate Savers Computing is a natural next step in CSC's green
agenda, which includes internal efforts and energy-saving solutions like
desktop virtualization for our clients but also extends to research programs
conducted by our Leading Edge Forum."
Part of CSC's Office of Innovation, the Leading Edge Forum provides
clients with access to a powerful knowledge base and global network of
innovative thought leaders who engage technology and business executives on
the current and future role of information technology. Focusing on the
practical use of technology, the LEF offers a CSC point of view on technology
trends to help clients understand what will happen in the future and how to
benefit from change.
