Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island and Care New England Reach Multiyear Agreement

PROVIDENCE, R.I., Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Blue Cross & Blue Shield ofRhode Island (BCBSRI) and Care New England (CNE) today announced that they have reached a new five-year agreement, which ensures that CNE will remain in the BCBSRI network until 2013. The agreement applies to all CNE hospitals (Kent, Women & Infants', and Butler) and the VNA of Care New England.

According to BCBSRI President and CEO James E. Purcell, "These are challenging times for all parties concerned. That being said, we are very pleased that we have reached this new agreement. It's an agreement that will mutually benefit BCBSRI members and the CNE system for the long term."

"BCBSRI has vigorously represented its ratepayers in these negotiations," added CNE President and CEO John J. Hynes. "Yet, BCBSRI has also acknowledged the needs of our hospitals. This new agreement represents a balanced result, which will benefit the healthcare system ofRhode Island."

Both parties have agreed that the specific terms of the new contract will not be disclosed.
