HAWKEYE Energy Corporation: Multi-Billion Dollar 180 MW Project Submitted to BC Hydro
HAWKEYE Energy Corporation is pleased to announce that on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at the time of 2:35 p.m., the company officially submitted Phase 1 of its multi-billion dollar Run-of-River hydroelectric project into BC Hydro's 2008 Clean Power Call (CPC) or Request for Proposals (RFP). Phase 1 of HAWKEYE's development plan is the initial stage of HAWKEYE's GREEN ENERGY GRID(TM), and calls for the construction of twelve (12) Run-of-River hydroelectric projects totaling 180 megawatts (MW's) of "green energy" power and for the construction of a 159 kilometer associated transmission line. The twelve projects that are situated in the Toba Valley, Powell River and Jervis Inlet regions located along the South West coast of British Columbia have the design capacity to generate enough energy to meet the annual needs for approximately 68,000 homes and offset approximately 540,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year which is the equivalent of taking 100,000 passenger vehicles off the road.
Greg Neeld, former professional hockey player, businessman and President & CEO of HAWKEYE, stated that, "This submission is a very important step in the process for the company advancing its Phase 1 Project through to its construction and production stages. It is the culmination of many years of hard work and planning by our core of engineers, consultants, employees and the grateful cooperation and support of our shareholders, the government of British Columbia and the regional governments and people from Powell River and Sechelt. HAWKEYE looks forward to continuing working closely with all interested parties, stakeholders, national and regional governments, regulatory authorities, BC Hydro, British Columbia Transmission Corporation and communities from the Toba Valley, Powell River and Jervis Inlet regions to advance our projects and provide long term economic and social development to the area."
HAWKEYE's submission is in response to BC Hydro's CPC or RFP which was a call to Independent Power Producers (IPP's) to generate an additional 5,000 gigawatt hours (GWh) per year of renewable "green energy" power to help the government of British Columbia meet its mandate for 90% of all new power being generated in the Province to come from clean energy sources and to become energy self sufficient by 2016. BC Hydro intends to award electricity purchase agreements (EPA's) from April through June 2009.
Over Christmas and throughout 2009 management will focus upon;
1) advancing permitting and performing additional work programs over its Phase 1 Projects and commencing work programs over its Phase 2 Projects in anticipation for the next call for power;
2) commencing talks with our selected construction company in anticipation of finalizing an engineering procurement contract (EPC);
3) advance relationships with our potential Equity and Debt Financiers; and
4) begin the process for HAWKEYE's intended initial public offering (IPO).
