WAM Development Group: Whirlpool Canada LP Sets up Operations in Calgary's Stoney Industrial

WAM Development Group Welcomes New Industrial Tenant

WAM Development Group, a North American leader in commercial real estate development, today announced that Whirlpool Canada LP is the first industrial tenant and is in full operation occupying over 439,000 square feet of distribution space at Stoney Industrial in Northeast Calgary.

Stoney Industrial is one of two industrial arms that are part of WAM's StoneGate Landing development - the new retail, office, industrial and hospitality development in Northeast Calgary that is expected to be the largest commercial development of its kind in Western Canada.

"We are pleased that Whirlpool Canada chose to lease with us to open a new distribution and logistics facility," said Darren Durstling, Partner, WAM Development Group. "This Northeast Calgary parcel is a prime location because it is situated near the Calgary International Airport, Stoney Trail (the future Calgary Ring Road), and major transportation routes, including Deerfoot Trail/Queen Elizabeth II highway, Country Hills Boulevard and Barlow Trail."

Whirlpool Canada has leased in Stoney Industrial as part of its relocation and expansion plans. In this new facility, Whirlpool Canada is consolidating two distribution centres from Calgary's Foothills area into one primary operation.

"The new Calgary regional distribution centre creates a more streamlined and less complex distribution network for our major appliances and is the last significant merger initiative. This will allow us to deliver our products in one consolidated shipment, with one invoice, making it easier for our retail partners to do business with us," said Susan Promane, Director Supply Chain, Whirlpool Canada. "The Stoney Industrial space in Northeast Calgary provided a timely opportunity for the relocation and expansion of our distribution centre."

The industrial component of StoneGate Landing and Stoney Industrial is slated to be a 10 million-square-foot light industrial park located to the east of StoneGate Landing. The industrial buildings will vary between 28 and 34 feet clear height with ample shipping doors on sites designed for high volume shipping and receiving.
