This week on SoCal Connected - KCET Captures the Spirit of Thanksgiving
In a special that captures the true spirit of Thanksgiving, KCET presents a heartwarming look at a unique program that brings foster kids together with senior citizens. On Thursday, November 27 at 8:00 p.m., KCET airs an encore broadcast of Family Matters, an award-winning half-hour special that families will want to enjoy and appreciate together.
Family Matters takes us to San Pasqual Academy, the first combination group home and high school in the country. Teenagers at San Pasqual, many of whom have been in the foster care system since they were babies, share a campus with volunteers old enough to be their grandparents. This remarkable intergenerational program is changing the lives of both the kids and the grownups.
In Family Matters, producer Angela Shelley introduces us to a cast of characters you won't soon forget, from 17-year-old Myles who says he's been in more than 60 foster homes to Grandma Kellie who, in her eighties, loves living around young people because she says, "I'm not going to be old!" The program concludes with a graduation day you'll long remember!
