Riverside Healthcare Awarded National Rankings
Riverside Medical Center, a prominent fixture
in the south Chicago medical community, recently received national
recognition in several patient care areas. Heart care, cancer care,
neurosurgery and orthopedics highlight the core of the organization's most
distinguished programs.
Successful hospitals in
Illinois require sensitivity to the people in the community that they
serve. The handful of five-star ratings that Riverside Healthcare received
as a result of HealthGrades' 11th Annual Hospital Quality in America Study
provides evidence of this superior level of care. The study awarded
Riverside Medical Center five-star ratings in numerous areas, including
prostatectomy, cholecystectomy, full knee replacement, back and neck
surgery, carotid surgery, coronary bypass surgery, and management of heart
failure.
In addition to the five-star ratings for Riverside Healthcare, located in
the south Chicago
hospital vicinity, service areas such as cardiac care and surgery,
orthopedic, spine, gastrointestinal surgery were found to be in the top 10%
of the United States in each given service area.
Riverside Medical Center, an Illinois hospital, was
assessed against some of the nation's top hospitals. The study examined
over 41 million Medicare in-patient records over a two year period.
Patients receiving care at a high-ranking hospital were found to have
significantly lower mortality rates. The HealthGrades quality of care
ranking assists individuals in choosing the best care available, by
assessing virtually all hospitals in the United States. However, the
HealthGrades' recognition makes up a small sample of Riverside Healthcare's
awards in recent years. The Thomson 100 Top Hospitals ranking provides
another example of outside recognition for the in-house care of patients in
multiple treatment areas.
