Salvation Army Dinosaur Descends on Downtown Pittsburgh; Creation Rex to Make Red Kettle Campaign Debut

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- He's big. He's scary. He's ringing the bell for The Salvation Army. Thanks to the support of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and a select group of students, "Creation Rex" is ringing in the Red Kettle season for The Salvation Army's downtown Pittsburgh Temple Corps. The giant dinosaur will be dressed in his cape and holding his bell at 420 Boulevard of the Allies directly in front of the school beginning Friday, November 21st and stay at his post until the end of 2008.

The Art Institute of Pittsburgh has a long history of supporting The Salvation Army in a wide variety of ways. "We are delighted that they so eagerly took part in this project," said Captain Tim Duperree, Commanding Officer of The Salvation Army's downtown Pittsburgh Temple Corps. "We are readying for a challenging kettle season and we feel that Creation Rex and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh will help to provide for some very valuable public awareness."

The 2008 Red Kettle Campaign goal for the 28-County Western Pennsylvania Division is $2,445,000. The target forAllegheny County is $760,000. The Salvation Army's downtown Pittsburgh Temple Corps needs to raise $85,000. Volunteers and kettle sites are always needed. If you are interested in either volunteering at a kettle or providing a site, contact your local Salvation Army. If you are inAllegheny County, contact Special Events Coordinator, Colleen Ley at 412-394-4870. Donors may also give online by logging onto www.onlineredkettle.com and indicating where their funds should be directed. Income from red kettles stays within the community where it is raised or selected online.
