California Baptist University Names Veteran Development Officer as VP
RIVERSIDE, Calif., Nov. 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Dr. Marilyn Johnson, a veteran of nearly three decades in higher education and fundraising for non-profit organizations, has been named Vice President for Institutional Advancement at California Baptist University.
Johnson has served as Vice President of Institutional Advancement for Nova Southeastern University, the largest private university inFlorida, and has been vice president of universities and president and executive director of foundations throughout her career.

The Executive Committee of the CBU Board of Trustees approved Johnson's selection Nov. 18. She will begin her new duties at California Baptist University Jan. 1, 2009.
Johnson has raised more than $400 million in charitable gifts for various higher education institutions and major healthcare organizations. She comes to CBU from the position of President of the Healthcare Foundation for the Yampa Valley Medical Center inSteamboat Springs, Colorado.
Johnson's previous positions in higher education include: Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations and Executive Director of the Foundation, University of Nevada, Reno; Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Foundation, Executive Director, and lecturer at California State University, Los Angeles; Associate Vice President, University Relations and Development and lecturer, California State University, Long Beach; Associate Athletics Director, Senior Women's Administrator and Compliance Officer, Lecturer, and Dean for Student Affairs, San Diego State University.
Johnson earned a bachelor's degree in education from California State Polytechnic University inPomona and a master's degree in education from San Diego State University. She began doctoral studies at the University of Southern California and completed an Ed.D. degree in Higher Education Administration at Nova Southeastern University.
Johnson will be responsible for programs including development, planned giving, fundraising, capital campaigns and alumni affairs as well as activities such as the annual golf tournaments and black tie gala sponsored by CBU.
Founded in 1950, California Baptist University is a private comprehensive university located inRiverside, California and affiliated with California Southern Baptist Convention. Fall 2008 enrollment at CBU totaled 4,013 students from more than 30 states and 29 foreign countries.
