Atlas Air, Polar Air Cargo Seek to Join Teamsters
Join Flight Crewmembers; File for Teamster Representation
WASHINGTON, Nov. 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Dispatchers for Atlas Air and Polar Air Cargo are seeking to be represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the union announced today.
The application for the dispatchers, who number about 25, was filed yesterday with the National Mediation Board. The dispatchers are currently not represented by a labor union.
The NMB is currently holding a representative election for Atlas Air and Polar Air Cargo flight crewmembers. The Teamsters expect results to be announced Dec. 20.
"All Atlas and Polar workers will benefit from Teamster representation in contract negotiations with Atlas Worldwide management," Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa said. "The Teamsters are continuing to gain momentum in the aviation industry."
The two air carriers are the operating entities for Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings (Nasdaq: AAWW), which is based inPurchase, N.Y. Atlas is the world's largest Boeing 747 cargo carrier.
The Teamsters Airline Division, under the direction of Capt. David Bourne, represents 43,000 airline employees.
