Rapper's Rap About Shooting a Man Lands Him in Prison

By Robert Paul Reyes

"He shot a man twice and felt so good about it, police said, a rapper wrote a song describing the shooting and calling out the victim by name. A judge sentenced 25-year-old Rico Todriquez Wright Monday to spend the next 20 years in prison after his victim mentioned the hip hop confession to police." The Associated Press

Rappers are notorious for lying about their criminal exploits in order to gain street cred. A rapper who is not a thug won't sell a lot of records, and he's not going to sell out any venues.

But Rico Todriquez Wright wasn't lying when he rapped about shooting a man, and now his little ditty has landed him in prison instead of at the top of the charts.

Not to put to fine a point on it, but Wright is an idiot for mentioning his victim by name. His rap got more airplay in court than it did on the radio.

Rappers have an extremely short shelf life, Wright's career is over. Even if Wright gets out of prison in ten years because of good behavior, he will have zero chance of making a comeback.
