Grandma Creates a Way to Help Protect Autistic Grandsons
Sharon Darrow, a grandmother worried about her twin autistic grandsons getting lost, designed a photo ID card enhance their safety and help get them back if they got lost. Realizing that child identification and safety is important for all kids, she started a business making these cards available for everybody. Her website, www.kidstravelcard.com, caught the attention of The Balancing Act, a Lifetime network program, which then featured the card on the show.
Dr. Wendy Walsh, Ph.D, a host of The Balancing Act, expressed every parent's and grandparent's greatest fear when she asked "Have you ever thought about what could happen if your child is traveling alone or in a school group ithout you to protect them" during the program.
The segment aired shortly after a national news story hit the airwaves about a 23-month-old child who was accidentally left in an airport by the parents and grandparents. She then went on to say "I would think that I would want to carry one myself, put one on my children, maybe send one to relatives as well if they ever have the kids, give one to the babysitters, a great idea!" Sharon's company, Travel ID Cards, markets the KidsTravelCard online at www.kidstravelcard.com, but she says what they really provide is peace of mind.
With that goal in mind, they have now added the AdultInfoCard for safeguarding impaired adults, and the PetTravelCard for protecting your pet.
