IWON.com Awards $10,000 to Both Wounded Vets & Rescued Pets as its Gaming Community Begins 3rd Month of Charity Team Challenge

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Nov. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Game winning took on greater meaning once again in October, when socially conscious competitors enrolled in the IWON.com Team Challenge racked up major coinage for their favorite causes. IWON awarded monthly prizes of $10,000 each to two worthy charities by the two top-scoring teams. The players for the Best Friends Animal Society won in the National team category, while the Wounded Warrior team supported the Wounded Warriors Project by taking top place in the community team category.

Now in its third month, the IWON Team Challenge makes it easy for anyone to get involved. A new player need only select a national or community designated charity of their choice, form a team in support of their cause (or join an existing team), and then start playing their favorite online games offered on IWON. Every month, the local and national charity whose teams accrue the greatest number of "coins" - IWON's form of currency - will each win the $10,000 prize.

The Wounded Warrior Project is a non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and empower wounded warriors by raising awareness and enlisting the public's aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women. The WWP also helps severely injured service members aid and assist each other and provides unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs.

The Best Friends Animal Society operates the largest sanctuary in the nation for homeless special needs animals. The Society works with communities, groups and individuals across the US and around the world to address the issues that contribute to homeless pets with the goal of achieving No More Homeless Pets within the next generation.

A Friend in Need...

"With an ever-growing number of IWON.com gamers participating in our charity team challenge, we are able to provide support for a diverse array of vitally important organizations," explained Timothy Allen, vice president of IWON, a business of IAC Consumer Applications and Portals. "We feel this is an important program given the current state of the economy and its affect on both national charities and community-based causes. Month after month, the IWON community is truly making a positive impact."

Competition Starts Fresh Each Month

Each month the IWON Team Challenge competition's coin counter resets to zero and everyone starts anew in the quest for the next pair of $10,000 prizes.

Added Allen, "We encourage IWON members to recruit their friends, family and fellow gamers to their teams to improve their chances of being the month's top scorers and we encourage charities to get their supporters to start or join a team to compete on their behalf."

Win/Win for Players, Too

What's more, while individual team members' coins accrue to the benefit of their team, the individual also gets to keep their earned coins as if they were simply playing for themselves. As an added incentive, IWON Team Challenge participants automatically compete for the honor of earning their teams' MVP badge, awarded to the member who wins the greatest number of coins during the contest cycle.
