MasterCard Worldwide Demonstrates Commitment to the Development of the Global Mobile Payments Eco-system
PURCHASE, N.Y., Nov. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Mobile phones are becoming an indispensable part of consumers' increasingly mobile lives, with a majority seeking to use them for more than just telecommunications. More than 600 million mobile "wallets" are expected to be in use by 2011 and that number is expected to rise to 1.4 billion by 2015, according to Edgar, Dunn and Company. MasterCard has long recognized the need for partnerships in the mobile space to facilitate the rapid, healthy development of the mobile payments business. To help achieve that end, MasterCard launched the MasterCard Mobile Partner Program in 2007. The success of that initiative is marked by the number of members - more than 30 companies have joined the program.
