Bell Waves to Save Earth
Join The Largest Orchestra in History
The largest orchestra in history will also play the longest symphony ever on the largest stage possible. The name of this artistic demonstration of will is "Bell Waves to Save Earth" from global warming. The instruments include school bells, sleigh bells, church bells, dinner bells, high pitched bells, big bass bells, hand bells, temple bells, brass bells, china bells, tubular bells, tribal bells, change bells, even cell phone bell tones.
"Knowledge can change the world, art can change the world, prayer can change the world if only we demonstrate the will", says Bell Waves to Save Earth creator and playwright Jon Denn.
Starting on 11/30/08 anyone wishing to be a member of the orchestra or one of the activists or one of the choir should ring the loudest bell they can find 350 times at 3:50pm. As 3:50pm marches across the time zones, so will the bell wave for the next ten days-to shatter the greenhouses of inaction and global warming. What's special about these particular ten days is that the world's leaders are gathering in Poznan, Poland for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to negotiate agreements to reverse global warming.
How will Bell Waves Save Earth? 350 stands for the parts per million of CO2 in the atmosphere that the planet can naturally process to maintain life as we know it. Currently we are at 385 and climbing. If we don't start bringing that number down soon, we will be forced to adapt to hotter and hotter conditions, shrinking shore lines causing a mass migration inland, and one humanitarian crisis after another-from floods to famines.
People will want to know what's all that ringing in their ears-that's your chance to tell them what 350 means. We especially want the negotiators in Poznan, Poland to hear us-in person, on the radio, and TV. Let's serenade them with the beautiful music of our resolve to save the planet-especially for our children's children", says Denn.
If you want to learn more you can visit 350.org. You can also join the Prayer Vigil to End Global Warming by offering the Counting Prayer for the Environment everyday and/or at every service until CO2 levels fall below 350. The prayer takes seven seconds to offer and goes like this: "The world now has the means to end global warming, we pray we will have the will." You can also ascribe to each bell ring the meaning of the Counting Prayer, and register your prayer pledge- said or rung-at countingprayers.org. The sister vigil-to end extreme poverty just had its millionth prayer offered by the staffs at ONE Sabbath and VoteOutPoverty.org.
There will be another one-day event to welcome the UNFCCC negotiators home on DAY 350 (12/15/08). And, again during the twelve days of the UNFCCC/Copenhagen in December of 2009. For more information contact Jon Denn at info@countingprayers.org or Will Bates at will@350.org.
