Freewebs Rebrands to Webs: 20 Million Websites Go Social

New Social Website Platform Makes It Easy to Grow a Site and Online Community

Webs.com announced today that they have officially rebranded their site-building service to embrace a rollout of social publishing features enabling site owners to grow a community around their websites. The platform makes it simple to seamlessly add photo and video galleries, blogs, calendars, web stores, wikis, and members that can comment and contribute to bring a website to life.

The rebrand and sleek new interface at Webs.com is a small part of a much larger milestone -- the launch of a new platform ten months in development.

"The simple truth is that traditional static websites aren't that interesting anymore," said Webs CEO & Co-Founder Haroon Mokhtarzada. "I talked to our users, I looked at what was happening on the Web and realized that we needed to transform websites into living, breathing online communities where members actively engage with and contribute to the content. To do so, we created a platform that merges website building and social publishing. Today we are thrilled to debut the first ever social website platform."

The announcement also signals a new opportunity for the developer community.

"The platform was built with partner applications in mind," said Webs CTO & Co-Founder Zeki Mokhtarzda. "Developers with useful web applications can quickly and seamlessly integrate them into our platform and gain access to our millions of site owners. On the flipside, our site owners reap the rewards of best-of-breed technologies from industry leaders like WetPaint, Picnik, YouTube, Clicky, Demand Media, and CoolIris."

Webs.com is the place for businesses, associations, clubs and individuals to grow a site and community. That's why more than 20,000 people build a site and bring it to life at Webs.com every day. Formerly Freewebs, the Webs.com service will continue to be offered at no expense but the new name will allow members to drop the word "free" from their URL. For more information visit www.Webs.com.
