SETI Astronomer: We Will Discover Extraterrestrials By 2025
Exactly who are you referring to when you wrote
"The proof that there is intelligent life in the universe won't come from a hillbilly who claims to have been abducted by alien beings as he was swallowing moonshine..."
What is a "hillbilly" to you?
As my former father-in-law used to joke, "One step above a mountain William?" Can you cite me one single credible report of a UFO sighting, much less an abduction report, coming from a "hillbilly" after "swallowing moonshine?" What else do you do with moonshine if not swallow it? Perhaps you have other uses.
BTW I am not a "hillbilly," far from it, my mother was an immigrant, I was raised in the NE and I have a college degree.
I resent your contemptuous mocking attitude toward a subject that ought to be studied cooly and objectively. Like most people who cop that attitude, you don't really know anything about this subject, because you think you're actually the center of the universe?
Who are you to decide what the nature of reality is?
Better, FAR better people than you, trained reliable military and civilian pilots and radar operators, civilian law enforcement officers and casual observers have reported UFOs under conditions that would be sufficient to take defensive action if our weaponry meant anything to them.
These phenomena frequently leave measurable physical traces that can be scientifically analyzed and evaluated for characteristics of their nature. In one carefully studied case, it was possible to calculate roughly the amount of energy a close encounter generated by the fact that it shut off the photocell-equipped street lights in a French village, which normally go off around sunrise. The amount of energy turned out to be frighteningly large to be contained in such a small amount of space as the reported size of the UFO.
We don't even know if they represent intelligent extrasolar life in this universe or something from a parallel, 4+N dimensional universe. If superstring theory is correct, there are something like six extra dimensions wrapped so tightly around every point in the first four we simply cannot access them. But that doesn't mean they couldn't access our dimension! From higher dimensions, they might perceive patterns of reality we simply cannot.
As Jacques Vallée and others have pointed out, they seem to have the ability to alter our thinking about reality. They are fundamentally indistinguishable in their methods, if not their shifting identities and the current high-tech set-dressing, from the supernatural deities and medieval demons of the past.
France, England, Mexico and several other progressive countries have released their files on UFOs and it's time our government did so too.
