D. R. Prasai Responds to Reader Comment
Letter to the Editor
I read the comment of Mr. Hom B. Gurung. I appreacite the comments about my article - 'Irresponsible leaders of Nepal'.
In a democracy everybody has the right to write and speak. I know, Mr. Gurung is in fovour of republic. But, in a republic Nepal will be the playground of terrorists and culprit groups.
In the contest of Nepal, the institution of monarchy is a force that fights off imperialist forces to create a greater Nepal. The King of Nepal never sold the nation, pleaded before foreigners nor killed the people and will never do so.
I wouldn't have said so if I was a citizen of *Japan, America or any other nation*, I would have said that the nation will *survive without the monarchy*, but I am in Nepal. The geographical and class reality of Nepal is such, that the absence of monarchy would mean there will be no Nepal.
So, I request to Mr. Gurung, you can be the supporter of the republic or communists but one-party communism and republic system can't adjust in Nepal. Nepalese people will not remain quiet if there is a republic. The visionless party leaders are trying to destroy the identity of this country, tradition and the basic foundation of this state.
Therefore, if we want to avert this uncertain and precarious situation there should be balance among nationality, monarchy and parliamentary democracy. Nepal's independence, sovereignty and democracy can never be safeguarded by abolishing the monarchy.
If Nepal's monarchy is abolished forever, the power balance of this region will be disrupted. Nepal's monarchy is the guarantor for peace, democracy and stability of this region. So, without the king, Nepal can't adjust. So, I request to Mr. Gurung to be creative for nation. If we want the Sovereign Nepal the king should be reinstated.
Thank you.
Dirgha Raj Prasai
