By Fayaz Wani

Srinagar, Nov 12: The pro-Indian Kashmiri leader escaped unhurt in a grenade blast carried out by suspected militants in Srinagar on Wednesday.

Police said that suspected militants lobbed a hand grenade towards a house at Chamar Doori, Maharaj Gunj, some five kilometres from summer capital Srinagar on Wednesday. "Senior pro-Indian Kashmiri leader, Mubarak Gul was present in the house at the time of the grenade attack. The explosive device went off with a big bang, without causing any loss of life or damage to property," they said.

The senior pro-Indian politician escaped unhurt in the explosion and was escorted to safety by his guards.

Immediately after the explosion, police and para-military personnel laid siege around the area to flush out the militants responsible for the blast. However, no arrests were reported.

This is the first attack on a pro-Indian politician in Kashmir after Indian government announced the poll schedule.
