The Bush's and The Obama's

Through the inauguration isn't for a couple of months, newly elected President Barack Obama and his wife were welcomed into the Oval Office Monday by President George W. Bush and his wife. The purpose of the near two-hour visit was talks of power transfer and a tour of the White House. White House Press Secretary Dana Perino said that Bush called the meeting "good, constructive, relaxed and friendly", and only went on the record to state that they talked about national and world issues.

However, it seems that this isn't the first time Bush and Obama met. According to his book, The Audacity of Hope, Obama wrote about their January 2005 meeting, a day before he was sworn into office as Senator -- and it was when Obama remembered what Bush told him:

"You've got a bright future. ... Very bright. But I've been in this town a while and, let me tell you, it can be tough."

The almost two-hour meeting included both the first lady and Michelle Obama talking about their families during the tour, while the men entered the Oval Office.

"They had a broad discussion about the importance of working together throughout the transition of government in light of the nation's many critical economic and security challenges" said Stephanie Cutter, spokeswoman for the Obama-Biden transition team. She went on to say that Obama thanked Bush "for his commitment to a smooth transition, and for his and first lady Laura Bush's gracious hospitality in welcoming the Obama's to the White House."
