Special Olympics Athletes Compete in Soccer, Long Distance Running/Walking Championships
WHAT: Some 450 Special Olympics soccer players, distance runners and walkers from more than 19 counties in Northern California will compete for gold in a one-day championship competition.
WHEN: Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008; 9 a.m.-5 p.m. WHERE: Cherry Island Soccer Complex (Soccer Championship) Gibson Ranch (Long Distance Running and Walking Championship) Elverta, CA (venues are within ½ mile of each other).
WHO: Special Olympics soccer athletes consisting of 37 teams, and skills athletes; 110 long distance runners and walkers
WHY: Special Olympics Northern California provides FREE equipment, training, and competition opportunities to athletes with developmental disabilities. The public is invited to attend the competitions. More than 100 volunteers will support and help run the day's events.

Special Olympics Northern California is a free year-round sports training and competition program for children and adults with developmental disabilities. More than 13,000 athletes compete in over 170 competitions throughout the region in 19 sports. Programs are free to all eligible athletes.
