Bhutanese refugee advocates for his people in Syracuse

Hari Adhikari - A Man of the People

Upon arrival at their new home of Syracuse, refugees from Bhutan are greeted at Hancock airport by the welcoming smile of Hari Adhikari, a fellow Bhutanese refugee and human rights activist who has been threatened, beaten and arrested over the past 17 years while advocating for his people who were expelled from their homeland.

Adhikari was the first refugee from Bhutan to be placed in Syracuse in early 2008, and now works as a case manager for Catholic Charities, helping to resettle Bhutanese refugees and continuing his role as community leader.
