What Messages Do Kids Learn From This Election Season?
IRVINE, Calif. andTUCSON, Ariz., Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- In the current
2008 pre-election season, parents and teachers can help kids get the message
about what it takes to lead our country through the Blast To The Past series
of children's novels written by coauthors Stacia Deutsch and Rhody Cohon.
Deutsch and Cohon, who hope to inspire our nation's future presidents,
have originated a highly successful, award-winning eight-book series,
published by Simon & Schuster.
Children are attracted to the series' time travel adventures of four
third-grade students -- Abigail, Jacob, Zack and Bo -- who are assigned by
their favorite teacher -- Mr.Caruthers -- to locate important American
historic figures such as Abraham Lincoln, George Washington and Martin Luther
King, Jr. The series' latest book is Betsy Ross's Star.
The assignment for these third-graders: Make history stay on track!
Whether the students are charged with encouraging President Lincoln to sign
the Emancipation Proclamation to free slaves, or motivating George Washington
to stay in Valley Forge to fight the Revolutionary War, situations presented
in the books are based on historical facts.
The series is highly recognized: the Washington Post selected Lincoln's
Legacy as Book of the Month and the series won both the Teacher's Choice Award
and the Arizona Book Publishing Association Glyph Award. It features other
notable figures including Ben Franklin, Alexander Graham Bell, Sacagawea and
Walt Disney.
"In creating this series, it was our vision that kids would learn a great
deal about American history while enjoying an exciting adventure story,"
Deutsch said. "Rhody and I are very grateful for this opportunity to bring the
amazing lives of famous Americans to the attention of our young readers."
Deutsch ofIrvine, Calif., and Cohon ofTucson, Ariz., are both mothers of
three kids.
