PHOTOS: MP Commander Checks IP Progress in Baghdad

BAGHDAD - Col. Mark Spindler, commander, 18th Military Police Brigade, Multi-National Division - Baghdad, who is a native of St. Louis, discusses policing operations with an Iraqi policeman at a Baghdad checkpoint. In past weeks, Iraqi Police and other Iraqi Security Forces have transferred responsibility of numerous checkpoints in Baghdad Muhallas. As IP begin taking full police primacy in several Baghdad areas, Spindler took a firsthand look at the progress the IP are making as they continue their efforts to take-on full responsibility.

The visits are used to gage the aptitude the policemen have at the checkpoints and to ensure the IP are receiving the proper support to perform their duties.

Ryan Blas, a military police Soldier from Multi-National Division - Baghdad's 18th Military Police Brigade, who is a native of Chalan Pago, Guam, pulls security during checkpoint operations in Baghdad. The military police Soldiers frequently visit IP in Baghdad during their daily operations to get a firsthand look at the progress the IP are making as IP continue their efforts to take full responsibility for the rule of law and security of their citizens.
